Introduction

Dr. Razi-ud-Din Siddiqui, a well known mathematician of Pakistan, formed a society named as Pakistan Mathematical Society on January 24, 1959. The purpose of the then Pakistan Mathematical Society was to introduce the working of scholars doing research in the field of Mathematics within and outside Pakistan. A “Two Days Mathematical Conference” was held on February 12-13, 1959 in Lahore which was presided by Dr. Abdus Salam, the Nobel prize laureate, an eminent scientist of Pakistan. Though the society was holding several academic activities successfully even then due to certain reasons it was dissolved and was formulated a new society on February 2, 1976 which was named as “Punjab Mathematical Society” abbreviated as PMS. The constitution of PMS was then prepared by Prof. Anjum Romani and Prof. Iftikhar Hussain under the leadership of Dr. Razi-ud-Din Siddiqui. Under that constitution first maiden constitutional election was held on May 15, 1976 by which Prof. Anjum Romani was elected as First President of PMS. The Punjab Mathematical Society was got registered under the Societies Act XXI of 1860 vide No. PR/1156/S/76/1417 dated 20-11-1976.  The society arranged a three days “All Pakistan Mathematical Conference” in Lahore from 28-30 Dec., 1977. The second election of the society was held in 1978 and Dr. B.A Saleemi was elected as President of the society. Prof. Khalifa Rashid-ud-din was elected as President in third election of the society held in 1985. As a result of fourth election of the society held in 1987, Prof. Anjum Romani was elected as President.
